Spectrum Asset Trading & Management

Wireless spectrum transparency and liquidity

A platform for the private and public sectors to identify and manage resources more efficiently, providing primary and secondary markets for the buying, selling and leasing of licensed radio frequency spectrum rights, Cantor Spectrum & Tower Exchange revolutionizes the market for radio frequency spectrum – the range of electromagnetic radio frequencies used in the transmission of sound, data and television, by creating an online and transparent forum for the purchase, sale and lease of wireless spectrum assets.

CS&TE brings transparency and liquidity to a highly illiquid market. Owners offer assets, which become instantly accessible to our market, and buyers/lessees can easily evaluate these assets and make a bid on them either individually or collectively. As a result, transactions are executed more rapidly and efficiently and at the best price possible.

How CS&TE works:

CS&TE provides an open or closed transparent forum for both primary (auction) and secondary (post-auction) market spectrum transactions in both public and private marketplaces.

  • Qualified license sellers/lessors or public sector entities offer radio frequency spectrum and digital sub-channel capacity in a multi-dimensional format showing coverage area, population, frequency range, radio service rules, terms and conditions, channel, time slot
  • Buyers/lessees search for specific assets (or receive electronic notification), and can easily evaluate and bid on them

Benefits:

  • Monetization/Utilization – An estimated 80 and 99% of licensed FCC/NTIA spectrum rights are not currently utilized.  By automating the spectrum management and trading process, buyers and sellers can more easily complete transactions
  • Real-time trading – Participants set specific preferences by frequency and location and are able to interact in real time as asset requests are posted.  The platform should enable new and more efficient uses of spectrum especially as the market moves toward Software Defined Radio systems
  • Research – Insight about current spectrum and tower ownership across multiple frequencies and geographic locations.  Demographics (population density, etc., by BTA, Radius) is a standard component of CS&TE as are population and household counts by specific ownership
  • Legal and Regulatory Information – Can be provided within CS&TE; increases execution efficiency and reduces transaction costs
  • Solution-based search capability – The Solutions by Frequency feature enables buyers/lessees to locate available spectrum and match with available vendor solutions
