Overview
This workshop has been designed as an intensive one-day-plus academic and educational session focusing on new ways in which institutional investors can better manage their investments.
The program emphasizes expected investing and risk management strategies and tactics given and ever-changing future environment. A portion of the program is centered on the use of exchange traded funds (ETFs) that have been around for over 20 years and yet are only now starting to be used by pension, endowment, foundation, union and similar type investors. The lack of usage of ETFs in the past has had much to do with perception, the idea that ETFs are based only on benchmark indexes, that they cost too much for institutional investors versus other common investments, they are too illiquid for the typically large allocations of institutional investors, among other reasons.
This program is about the new world of investing and risk management, and how tools, like ETFs, can be used to execute mandates. The future of ETFs includes active and passive management, liquidity for the largest investors, a range of asset class exposures like no other investment segment, and strategies that far outnumber the way any traditional institutional exposure can be achieved.
Assets in ETFs in the US alone were well over $2 trillion at the end of 2016 and industry forecasts indicate that number to grow to $5 trillion over the next five years while over the same period mutual fund assets are expected to decline from the current $12 trillion and there will likely be similar declines in the separately managed account market segment. Why? Perhaps, ETFs really are a better “mouse trap.”
